4R75E interchangeable???

4R75E interchangeable???

I have a 2009 ford E350 with 5.4l engine. It has the 4R75E transmission I found 2006 4R75E transmission out of a E350 with a 5.4l engine. Are they interchangeable?

They should be - I believe that 2006 and newer are essentially the same.

to much misleading info

I had a transmission shop out Georgia ask me if my transmission was a five speed or 6 speed after I told him it was a 4R75E. He replied that it's only a 4R75 and then stated he has never seen or known Ford to put those in trucks or vans. Then he told me to count the bolts on my transmission pan I did and there are 14 bolts. He replied you have a 4R75 either W or E transmission. Then I ask, which is it a 5 or 6 speed transmission? He told neither it's a 4 speed. So now I'm totally confused on any of the information I've been given.

4R75, whether it's a W or E, essentially the same thing, is a 4 speed.

Are you sure you don't have a 5R110? That's a 5 speed.

Here is the pan shape for a 5R110:



An E-350 could have either.

My transmission pan is almost a perfect square with just one corner angled with a drop down section which the picture of the 4R75 pan you posted doesn’t have the drop down section and it has two angled corners.

What is the TRANS code on the door jamb sticker?

If your shift quadrant is PRND21 it's a 4R75, if it's PRND321 it's a 5R110.

The 4RXXX 4 speed transmissions are in lots of trucks and vans. Don't go back there. I wouldn't trust these guys.

The logic is to either have your transmission rebuilt, or install a remanufactured transmission. It's not worth the time or money to source a used transmission.

Imagine that the used transmission has 50,000 miles, it works, and you install it. 10,000 miles later, it develops problems. Do you want to spend all that money to install a transmission with wear & tear, that will eventually go out?

Your best option is to buy a remanufactured transmission with a warranty.

So can I use a 4R75 transmission out of 2006 Ford E350 to replace my 4R75 in my 2009 Ford E350 both have the 5.4l engine?

You have a 4R75E (code Q). A 4R75E out of a 2006 van should be plug and play.

Thanks so much for all the help and info. Now I’m trying to determine if this transmission I’m looking to purchase is a 4R75E. I’m told it came out of a 2006 Ford E350 with a 5.4l engine.
