01 F250 4x4 Shifter linkage

My 01 F250 automatic column shift transmission is getting harder and harder to get into park. I’m assuming it is a cable from the column down to the transmission which I guess has stretched or come loose. It’s getting to the point where sometimes I need to start it in neutral and when I park it and put in park sometimes it starts to roll and jerks like it’s in between reverse I guess and park. What’s the best fix for this?
Thank you.

Check the 2 torx screws on the end of the shift tube under the dash. They do get loose sometimes. Shift tube bushings can also cause a sloppy shifter when they wear out, but check the screws first.

Check the whole linkage. It's not rocket science to find where excessive slop is at in the system, but you do have to make the effort to actually look at it.

So the screws are at the bottom of the steering column?

Under the dash. Connects the shift cable to the shiftier lever. Remove the lower dash panel and twist/contort to look up.

Well I finally crawled under because it got infuriating how messed up it was. Two loose screws is all it was. Now it’s perfect. Took a year to find 5 minutes.
Thank you guys!!!

01 with less than 70K. Parked in driveway and it started rolling back with a ratcheting sound. Yep, the two loose bolts. And maybe a few nuts that this is still a problem.
