OD Switch

This might sound trivial, but it sure has me curious.
I bought my F-150 brand new off the lot (6 miles). It currently has 147K miles. It has the 4R75E transmission. Something I have never done was press the OD switch on the gear selector. I have never had a reason to. What IF I were to actually select to use it? You know those myths about NEVER change trans fluid if you have a lot of miles on unchanged fluid, NEVER switch from conventional oil to synthetic, and vise versa, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I honestly don't think anything will happen, but if so, what?

It's for towing or hauling.

It keeps the transmission from hunting in and out of overdrive.

All it does is lock out overdrive - 4th gear.

Okay, now I know WHAT it does. BUT, being I have NEVER pressed it, used it, touched it, if I were to suddenly press the button, will it break, pop out of the shift, cause my trans to not shift back into 4th,....??????

If you press the button on and off I'm sure it will work as intended, just like glc said.

Thanks for y'alls replies.
It's just one of those things I was sitting there thinking about, being I have never towed anything. I have never removed the cover in my bumper for a hitch ball. My truck lives a very pampered lifestyle.

Yes, that's a myth. It has NO basis in fact.

All that this switch does it keep the computer from telling the trans to shift to fourth gear. If you press it the world will blow up and we will all die.
