Help m5odr2 trans swap

I have a 1988 Ford F150 custom 5.0 5 speed I was wondering if I could take a m5od R2 out of a 1997 F-150 with a 4.6 and just bolt it in? my transmission is starting to act up and not want to go in or come out of gear my clutch is good but I believe it is the throwout bearing that is going out and plus in every gear except 4th and reverse there is bad grinding noises and whirling noises can I do a direct swap without having to change anything please help.

Please don't post all over the forums, and please don't send private messages asking what you have already asked in the forum. Thank you.

Short answer: Nope, not compatible.

You can use a M5OD out of a 300 I6, 302 V8, or 4.2 V6. These all have the Windsor bolt pattern. The 4.6 uses a different pattern. It also has to be out of the same drive system (2wd or 4wd). I also believe a 99 or newer will require mods to the floor, the shift tower was moved.

If it's the throwout bearing going out, a trans swap won't fix that, you need to rebuild the clutch. You also might have a stuck pilot bearing.
