Ive got a 2001 f150 2wd triton 5.4 model with transmission issues and im not sure what tranny is in it. I may have found a 2002 parts truck with a good tranny in it but not sure if its the same or not. I just bought the truck 2 weeks ago for my son so i know nothing about the truck. So my question is What transmission is in my truck and what all is a compatible with it?

 

It's most likely a 4R70W. What's the TRANS code on the door jamb sticker? "U" is 4R70W, "E" is 4R100.

If it's a 4R70W, any 4R70W out of a 4.6 or 5.4 2wd F-150 from 1999-2003 will bolt right in. However, for best operation, you need a 5.4 torque converter. If it happens to be a 4R100 (not likely at all) I'm not sure what will fit - I think a 99-01 4R100 out of a 5.4 2wd F-150 7700.

Here's a pic of the pan gaskets for Ford automatics, you can tell the difference between a 4R70W and a 4R100 by pan shape.

The door jam says TR U right after the axle listing so it must be the 4r70w. Thanks for your help!

 

If the 2002 is also a 2wd truck with a 4.6 or 5.4 and a 4R70W, you are all set. If it's a 4wd and/or a V-6, no go.

 

It was a 5.4 2wd but the ladys story kept changing about if it was good or not so now im back on the hunt for a good transmission.

 

Hopefully you got a deal on the truck... or least a discount if the lady didn't know if the transmission was any good.
