Trans sounds like it is between gears, when backing up, has a dry rubbing sound, and when put into drive, it dies most the time, worked fine until I replaced the shift lever adjustment thumb piece, for adjusting the indicator needle, the OD light in the end of the shift lever flashes sometimes.

 

I would buy a scan tool that can read transmission codes. Those flashing OD lights mean there is something wrong.
