console shifter

Lately when I try to shift into Drive or reverse, it won't engage and I'll need to try again. No issues once it's in gear. The bushing that attaches the shifter to the linkage cable looks fine. Any ideas? Is the shifter now somehow bad and needs on be replaced? It seems like the shifter doesn't clearly click from park to neutral to reverse to drive. It's more like it easily slides from one to the next.

You can recenter the index on the cable by loosening the end on the transmission. It's got lots of little teeth for adjustment.

Loosen the locking clasp over the side of the cable, it should move a tooth or two and then tighten it back up.

Overtime the steel shift cable stretches on its end fittings, simple adjustment, only takes a few moments
