‘99 f150 2WD 5.4- Auto to Manual?
Hey fellas so I’ve got a 99 2WD f150 Auto which i wanted to convert to a manual. I’ve been looking all over the place on different sites and forums seeing how to do this but have not gotten any direct answers. I know that ford didn’t make the manual option for my model so obviously there would be some alterations. I also came upon that the 4.6L trans couldn’t take the 5.4L. I know it’s possible because I’ve seen it done but i just can’t seem to get any direct answers from one idea to the other. I saw some speculation as far as using an f250 5.4 manual trans but I’m still hesitant. If anybody could shed some light on this I’d be more than great full.

You would be much better off using a F250 transmission, but you will either have to cut a huge hole in the floor or install a 3" body lift. Either way, it has to be a 2wd transmission and you may need a custom driveshaft. You will have computer issues, the PCM expects to see an automatic.

As you read the 5 speed behind the 4.6 is not rated to take the torque of a 5.4. Of course you can install one. But towing will be limited a well as how much lead footing you can do without destroying the trans.

I don't think you can run a F150 with a F250 computer. You would have to get some custom reprogramming done.
