Cool Will M5OD-r2 from '92 F150 work in a '97?

My 2nd gear synchro is bad, and I've been tolerating it because my truck is my daily drive. I'll have to wait until I can either use my motorcycle next summer, or...
I just ran across a '92 M5OD for a REALLY good price... I wonder if it'll bolt in and work while I rebuild my original?
Can anyone advise me? Thanks for your help..

If your 97 has a 4.6, nope.

If it has a 4.2, it will as long as both your truck and the transmission are the same drive system - 2wd or 4wd. The transmission also has to be out of a F150 with a 300 or 302.

glc, thank you! My '97 is a Supercab XL 2WD with a 4.2 V6, and the donor truck is a '92 2WD with a 302 V8.
So that is a fully-compatible, "bolt-on" (so to speak) 5-speed?

I believe so - same bellhousing bolt pattern, I think same tailshaft.
