1995 f 150 4x4 m5r2 5 speed

1995 f 150 302 ci 4x4 m5r2 5 speed manual transmission is getting hard to shift into any gear, and grinding a bit going into reverse. Before today it shifted really smooth. It is a rebuild with 30,000 on it and i changed the fuild every 6,000 miles with motorcraft mercon v.

Dumb question but have you checked the fluid level?

You don't have to change the fluid that often, it's good for 100k.

You either have a clutch issue or a sticky pilot bearing. The slave cylinder is concentric with the throwout bearing, and is known to develop leaks.

Is the clutch engaging real close to the floor? That does indicate an issue with the clutch, not the transmission. Check the clutch fluid, check the bellhousing inspection cover for fluid leaks, bleed the clutch.

It gets hard to shift when it gets hot, and when it is hot if you shut the motor off it shifts just fine. I let it cool off and just came back from the store, and it shifted ok, a little sticky through, and again with the motor off it shifts like butter.Yes the clutch does engage close to the floor. I checked the clutch master cylinder and the fluid level is ok just a tiny bit low. Thanks for your help!

If it's engaging close to the floor, you have a clutch issue. Sounds like you also have a sticky pilot bearing.
