Hi Ford folks, just picked up a 1992 F150xlt, with a 5.8l. Got a good price, and I'm fixin to use it to tow my 40 year old Boston Whaler. I noticed on the drive home, I don't seem to have a first gear. It feels like I'm starting in second gear, fro a stop. Once up to cruising speed , no issues. Do the members have any recommendations, short of a tranny swap/rebuild? Any direction is much appreciated> CHeers, Anthony.

 

You sure you are in D and not 2?

 

Definitely. I shifted down to 1st, at a stoplight, and IT, and second felt identical. In D, it labors to get going, and with the pedal to the floor, takes a good 4-5 seconds to get enough gumption to advance..
