2005 F150 Major Transmission issues.

Hey Everyone very new to this forum but need some guidance.

I Just bought a 2005 f150, the trans was doing the slip in over drive so last night i dropped the pan and valve and replaced a broken retainer ring hoping that would be the fix. Dug all the pieces out of valve body put new ring in, put everything back together added 5 quarts of fluid start it and when I shift in to reverse it backs up but if I shift in to any other gear the rpms have to be way up for me to be able to crawl forward then I got a trans fault and O/D flash.

What Did I DO?

Scan for OBD2 codes with a scanner that can read Ford transmission codes.

I'll bet the manual valve isn't properly connected to the shift linkage. This will set a false OSS code.
