Have to rev engine to engage transmission from start

I have a 1997 F150 4x4 with the small V8, yesterday out of the blue I started the truck put it in drive and it would not move until I revved the engine, it happened a couple of more times on the drive home (5 miles), all four forward gears seemed to engage while running. Any thoughts on what this could be, the truck has about 80k miles and the tranny was flushed at 60k miles.

Low fluid can cause this. So can a failed internal seal.

Fluid level is good, doesn't smell burnt. Going to try and find a good transmission place near me

Forward clutch has failed, time for a rebuild or replacement trans.
