4r75e to 4r70e

Been doing tons of reading. Seeing lots of swaps from the 70e to the 75e.
Haven't seen any the other way.
Is it possible to put a 70e in place of my 75e? Seems to be the closest match I can find in my area.

No. There is an extra sensor near the tail end of the trans on the 75 on the drivers side.

what vehicle, what year, what engine?

ALL 2005 and newer with 5.4L engine have 4R75E transmission.

these transmission are easily identified by the addition of a Turbine speed sensor (TSS) mounted in the in the middle of the case, older 4R70W transmissions (2003 and down) do not have this sensor

Actually Monster is the furthest from the truth.

The 4R70W had only an OSS.
The 4R70E and 4R75E had both an OSS and a TSS. Thus the "E"

The change happened in 04.

But, some 04 vehicles still had a 4R70W, like the "Herritage" series trucks. And some 04 vehicles had the spot for the sensor but didn't use it and there was a plug instead, like the 04 Mustang.

The concern is whether your transmission has the second sensor (TSS) or not and if the one you want tto use has one or not. If it will bolt up bellhousing pattern and output shaft wise, and it has the right number of sensors, then it can work. Except for the following.

There is also the issue of the count on the ring gear. The "E" transmissions had a 24 tooth ring gear count where the "W" transmissions had 6.

Confused yet?
