2000 stepside clutch questions
Hi everyone I'm new to this site and I'm looking for a simple answer or just a little help. So here's my question what's the life expectancy of a clutch in one of these badboys I just bought one and was wondering if I should go in for the kill

I've seen the factory clutch go 200k, but odds are that the slave cylinder (and possibly the master cylinder) is going to start leaking well before that. If the clutch feels okay now, just wait till the slave blows or it starts slipping, then do a complete rebuild. The slave is internal, it's concentric with the throwout bearing. When you do the rebuild, replace the disc, pressure plate, slave/throwout bearing, and pilot bearing - pull the flywheel and get it bench ground and replace the rear main seal (unless it's completely dry around it). No need to replace the master cylinder until it starts leaking, that's no big deal to change.

You have to remove the transmission, which you should get a shop manual to help you with. It's pretty labor intensive.
