1997 shift issue when cold

I have a 1997 farm truck about 100k on the truck. 2wd v6 automatic od.
My issue is:
when its cold the tranny seems to drop out in between shifts. It feels like the truck is off, but when it up shifts away I go.
I do hear a winning noise so I dropped the pan to change the filter thinking the pan would be dirty. I was taken back by how clean the inside of the pan is.
Could this be a sensor? When the tranny warms up it shifts fine.
Love my chicken truck but I don't want to dump to much$ in to it.

I put the new filter in and changed the filter. I took it out for a test drive.
It seems the flutter at low speeds in between up shifts and down shift. That's the best way I can describe the issue.
Winning isn't not the tranny. It is in the belt drive end (not related to post)

Did you also drain the torque converter? If not you only got 1/3 of the old fluid out.

Could this be ignition related?

Funny thing is that is just what I was thinking this morning driving to work. Maybe the coil pack?

I just changed out the coil pack and the truck shift smoothly!!!
As I understand it if the truck doesn't have full spark the torque lock-up engages and disengages causing the truck to sputter, giving it the feel of a bad shifting transmission.
Its been a good learning day.
Thanks for everyone's input !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
