1994 F150 auto transmission starts but won't move

I have a 1994 F150 that I took out last weekend. I've had idling problems with it so as I was going down the road I pushed the gas to try and kick it down. Big mistake! It reved up to high and with the brake on couldn't get it to slow down so I put it in neutral which caused it to go even higher so I put it back in drive. No movement at all. The transmission will not go in any gear. (Forward or reverse) I had a friend come over being stuck in the middle of the road and tow me back. When he first got there I had him move through the gears to see if the cable from the column broke but the linkage moved fine. Also when he was towing me at a stop I put it in park and it wouldn't move. So I put it back I neutral and he was able to pull again. I'd appreciate any help or ideas you all may have. I have done my fair share of work on vehicles but never had anything like this. Thank you in advance.

The engine is a V8 5.0. Trans code in door is E and rectangular 20 bolt pan. With everything I find that would be an E40D
