2005 F150 Lost Overdrive!

Hi there, I'm new to the forum.
Within the last day or so I realized my 2005 F150 lost overdrive, a problem I realize is fairly common with these transmissions. I have the 4.6 V8, XL trim, VIN is 1FTRX12W45FB53348, and the transmission is the 4R70E I believe. I'm the second owner of the truck. Bought at around 103,000 and now has roughly 108,000 miles. Luckily, I'm in my third year of Automotive Technology class at my High School so I have the ability to work on it myself. I'm thinking of replacing the whole transmission with a remanufactured one. I'm not sure which component is at fault, be it the OD band or broken clip. I've read up as much as I could about this issue within the last day or so. Not sure I want to deal with the hassle of tearing down the whole transmission to pinpoint the issue. I'd feel more comfortable throwing an improved remanufactured transmission in there. Suggestions on where I could find a reasonably priced one? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks. Before I jump to conclusions with needing to replace the trans, I'm gonna pull the valve body cover off, and HOPEFULLY that servo clip is laying in pieces right there! I should be able to do this at school. There's a pretty good YouTube video that details this procedure.

I absolutely think that's the right decision and that you are on the right track.

A Youtube user by the name of "Transmission Bench" has recently made some very comprehensive videos, detailing disassembly of the 4R70W/70E transmission. I'm finding this very helpful as a visual reference to get my bearings before beginning to fix my truck. Figured I'd include a link to one of his videos so you guys can find it too incase this has just happened to you also.
He has a whole series on our transmissions.
