Overdrive light flashing when driving on the highway

The other night when I was driving on a highway I noticed my overdrive light was flashing. The transmission was shifting just fine so I justhought kept going. When I got to my stop I checked for codes and there was none and now it hasn't flashed since then. Is this something I should worry about. The truck is a 1997 f150 4.6l automatic 4x4 with 206,000 miles.

There WILL be codes, but low end readers can't read them. A dealer or transmission shop should be able to read them.

Yes, it's something you need to worry about. It's going to get worse if it's ignored, possibly leading to a new transmission. If you read the codes it might be something very minor, but if you ignore it you'll be in for an expensive lesson.

Thanks for the info guys. My 1998 F150 has this same issue... it just started. Mine has been giving me trouble shifting for a while now, but the light is new. I'll take it to a transmission shop Monday to have it looked at. For a while now, the tranny does not like to shift into 3rd. I have to go about 1/2 mile in second gear running at about 3500 rpm before it will shift. Once it makes shifts into third that first time, then it shift fine until the next morning... its when it sits over night that this happens.
