Easy to install shift kit?

Is it easy to install a shift kit in my 4R70W tranny? I'm talking about a real shift kit where I need to drop the pan. I used to have the electric shift kit, but it wasn't doing it for me.

And I've had to (temporarily) pull my Superchip because of the horrible gas prices, but that's another issue.

Is this something that the average guy could do? Do you just need to drop the pan and install a few things? I am sort of under the impression that when you drop the pan, a whole load of springs and ball bearings and stuff will fall out. As you can tell, I've never dropped the pan on a tranny.

Thanks.

I installed the TransGo Shift Kit and had never been past changing the fluid and filter before that. A video comes with the kit. I put a TV and VCR in the garage and used the rewind button many times. There are also writted instructions. Nothing falls apart when you take off the pan. Nothing falls apart when you take off the valve body. There are a couple of holes to drill, bits provided in the kit and some springs and valves to change.
You can do this.

How much does it cost, and where would be a good place online to buy it?

I ordered from Summitt Racing and it was $104.49 with shipping.
The box says AODE but don't let that bother you. A 4R70W is an AODE.
It has been a couple of years so the kit has probably been improved by now.

Thumbs up B&M installed on mine

Installed the B&M shift improver kit on my 1999 4r70w. I had it done at the local tranny shop, but i helped with it, because i felt more comfortable that way. Anyways, it turned out to be relatively easy, and i could of done it easily in my driveway. Jusst follow the directions to the letter. It's shifts are definately improved, although not neck breaking. I did go with the towing option instead of the racing setup. Also installed Amsoil Synthetic ATF and a B&M tranny cooler. Much happier now.
