Replace 4r70w with 4r75w

Hi All: I need to replace my transmission in my 97 F150 Supercab.
It has the 4r70w. Will the 4r75w or a 4r75E swap into my truck?
I'm looking at a trans. AC2P-7000DA I'm told it's from an E350.
It has a tag PKF-IMO. I replaced the 4.2L V6 engine about 16 months
ago with a 2008 4.2L V6 it was running fine until we had a big snow
now I only have reverse. Thanks for your help.

It won't bolt up - the V-6 has a different bell housing bolt pattern than the Triton V-8's. You are stuck with a V-6 configured 4R70W, and it has to be for what you have - 2wd or 4wd.

Thanks for your heads up. One Dealer now tells me that the AC2P-7000da is a 4r70w trans. and the shipping container has on it 4r70w. I though that all 4r70w have the same trans. case. Thanks again.

It has to be for a V-6 bellhousing, and the tailshafts are different between 2wd and 4wd.

Not sure, but I think there also may be an issue with the speedometer/odometer/speed sensing setup between the 97/98 and later.

Yes: I see that the v8 has a 3 bolt pattern for the starter and the v6 has a two bolt pattern for the starter. I'm looking on carparts for a 08 v6 trans have to check to see if my OEM ECU will shift the newer trans. When I did the engine, I keep the OEM ECU and made my own wiring harness using an old 08 ECU for the plug socket and my old ECU wire. I think you may remember my old post and I received advice from you on that also. Thanks Very much!

I think you may need to find a tranny out of a 97 or 98 unless you want to do more electrical modifications.

Hi glc: I don't mind having to do any modifications. I bought this truck in Aug, 1996. The body is still nice and I now have the 08 engine in it. I got taken for a ride ,by ford back then with this buy, 3 bad motors rear and front end. I really don't want anything from 97-98. I would like to try a 2007-08 4r75e thans. I don't know if they are physically the same, tail shaft ect. I think by 08 Ford got it right. I would post pictures, not sure how to do it here.
Thanks for all of your help.

A 07-08 4R75E will NOT bolt up, that's only a V-8 tranny. Again, you can only use a 4R from a V-6, same drive type (4wd or 2wd). Unless you use a 97/98 tranny, you are going to have speedo/odo/speed sensor issues.

ahmad 01-28-2014 05:16 PM

I understand that part. I'm looking at a transmission form an 07 4.2L V6. With 7000 mi.
I have an ECU for an 08 but it's for a stick shift. So I'm thinking about an ECU for an automatic and connecting the engine and trans to that and rewiring the body. My truck
is a 2wd and so is the 07 trans.

How are you going to drive the speedo and odo? Yours are not computer controlled and the 07 tranny doesn't have the gear.

Patman 01-28-2014 06:27 PM

04+ V6 trucks still used the 4R70W. Why not rebuild and beef up what you already have?

ahmad 01-28-2014 07:02 PM

Well? Before I start something like this I like to get some input from guys like your self who know a lot more than me. Summit Racing has speedos and odos. The 04 sounds fine but from what I've read I like the 07-08 also, and I have the 08 engine in the truck. So I know that
gear is not able to be added? I see that the 04 has two different ones 1L3p-DA & 4L3p-AA.

If you have a manual transmission ECU, how is your existing transmission being controlled?

ahmad 01-28-2014 07:52 PM

OH. The 08 ECU is on the shelf. The truck is still using the OEM ECU. That's the one I made the wiring harness for using a plug sock from an 08.

ahmad 01-29-2014 03:09 PM

I was looking at both of my wiring diagram manuals for the 97 truck & the 08 truck they both show that they have an (oss) Output shaft speed sensor. Please correct me if I'm Wrong The oss controls the transmission shifting. The (tss) Turbine shaft sensor would not be used for the 08 trans. in the 97 truck. Please keep in mind that I have the 08 engine in the truck. I would have to check to see which transmission range switch to use if I stay with the 97 ECU. I still have the old 08 ECU, that I removed the engine socket from and can make up a harness for the trans. using the other part of the socket. I think that if I used an 08 ECU I would also have to have the key to match that ECU. Thanks for all of your input and help. If you were asking how the speed clock will work. I think that the sensor in the rear does that.
