Overdrive "Off" light flashing

Hi,
I just bought a 2002 F150 supercab. Car drove great during test drive. After I paid and drove home the Overdrive "Off" light started flashing while I was in drive. The truck won't engage to 3rd gear or "D". I turned the truck off and restarted and it kept flashing. If anyone has had this problem can you recommend steps to take to turn the Overdrive back "'On" (the button doesn't do this), is there a need to check wiring or fuse, would unplugging the battery reset the overdrive>

I need help quick.

thanks
Matt

The computer has detected a fault relatedto the transmission. You will need to have the transmission fault codes read by someone with the right equipment and who knows what they are doing (that automatically rules out the parts stores).

Undo the purchase and run away if you can. Otherwise, you will likely find that you are screwed.

Thanks for the bright outlook.

You bought a truck. The transmission failed on the way home. Now you own a just-purchased truck with a busted transmission unless the deal can be unwound.

That might not be "bright", but it is "clear".

On new vehicles you have the right to change your mind within 3 days I believe. It's the law.

It's obviously not a new vehicle since it's 12 years old.....

So what you are saying is the transmission is busted because the overdrive light is on. I think the fault codes being read will give the true answer until then you don't know if it is busted. No one knows if it is busted until then. The seller is taking care of it. I will keep you all informed. Thanks for the feed back.

Note that the fault codes will be cleared if you disconnect the battery.

No, what I said was

The computer has detected a fault related to the transmission.
I used the term "busted transmission" loosely in that it encompassed all the possibilities related to the operation of the transmission, whether internal or external.

The seller is taking care of it.
That is GOOD news.

That is GOOD news.

A short in the wire for the alarm was causing the same 5w fuse that signals to the overdrive blow out. Once short fixed and fused replaced. All is working.
