smell fluid.
When I get out of my truck and stand close to the front of my truck I can smell what smells like transmission fluid. A sort of sweet smell. I've looked for leaks and have found non, and there aren't any drips under the truck after parked overnight. Any ideas what this could be?

Are you sure it isn't antifreeze? That has a sweet smell. Check the water pump to make sure it isn't dripping from the weep hole.

I'm low on coolant. But that wouldn't make the smell would it?

Coolant has a sweet smell when heated, tranny fluid smells more like crude oil..........

Well now that I know its a coolant leak where do I start, like I said it does not drip so its not a huge leak. I was told up by the throttle body where the water tube is it wears out on the triton motor? Anyone have a diagram posted on the forum? I looked at the stickies but didn't find one. Thanks y'all.

Well I just put some coolant in, took a whole gallon and could even use a little more to make it to the bottom line. Checked all around the engine bay and no leaks. Got the truck warm and rev'd and all. Turned it off and found that the smell is conning from the passenger floor under dash area....wtf

Passenger dash area? That's where the heater core is.

Has someone done a complete write up on doing the heater core replacement. I've never taken the dash off before so I'll need a walk through

Heater core replacement
It's a lot of little easy things. I recommend getting a kit of new hardware for mounting the dash and other interior parts. Some of them will be those plastic clips some will be screws so get the plastic clips. Reuse old screws. There are a few tricks that involve cutting out a small portion of the core housing if you don't want to remove everything but I would just go ahead and remove everything. Jobs worth doing are worth doing right. This way you can inspect connecting hoses/lines and anything else that's in this area. If you see anything that might be a problem in the future, go ahead and replace it now but save the old parts for spares just in case. This area houses things like blower motor in the lowest end up to your heater core. There's wires and such as well. Just make sure all is well while you have it open
