wont shift into 3rd or 4 gear
I have a 2006 f150 king ranch with the 5.4L, 108,000 miles
I did replace the sparkplugs because it started to misfire now the motor runs great but then it wont shift into 3rd or 4th gear so then i replaced the throttle position sensor and shift solenoid nothing has changed, I did the 2nd gear motor brake test and that works just fine I have had 2 places try to pull the trouble codes but there is no codes I have ran out of ideads and there is not much info on this issue anywhere I would be thankful for any help at this mess Thanks Kevin |

What does it do when it goes to shift into 3rd? Act like its in neutral?

sounds like a clutch pack no longer holds. aka rebuild time.

In case any one else finds this thread -
Mine failed one day after working fine - no 3rd and neutral at 20mph I took it apart and figured out the Direct Drive drum had all the teeth stripped off - where it slides onto the output shaft teeth. The Direct Drive drum and clutch pack enable 3rd gear, need 3rd gear to get the OD function. I got confidence to take it apart from you Tube videos by Transmission Bench www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDIAnmnpGK4 |
