4R70W or E4OD?

building a 5.4L with cams and a blower looking to get 400-500 HP the local trans guy said what ever i picked hed help me with but both trans can be built to handle power with the right parts he said alot of mustang guys build the 4R70W pretty strong to handle power.

Just trying to get people opions hear of witch trans would hold up better to power i am not going to drive it like i stole it i will get on it every now and then.

so what trans would you say is the better choice to handle power and what aftermarket parts do i need to build it strong?

One of the best Ford transmission rebuilders you will find. He's been around here for years.

He's alive? There's been several people trying to contact him without success. Not sure if they ever did though.

so a few friends are trying to talk me out of building a 4R70W saying "its a light duty trans" and "A 5.4L in stock trim at 2,300 RPM is putting a 4R70W at 90% torque capcity"

i would love a ZF5 but costs alot and itd be a little bit of work adding a clutch ect ect.

i always come back with the mustang guys make made power and the 4R70W holds up for them and they say "that car is 1/2 the weight your truck is 4,300lbs the mustangs are 2,300-2,500 with the extra weight of the truck its putting alot more stress on the trans"

so is there a way to make 400-500 HP with a 4R70W without having it blow up in a 97 F150 2wd ext cab short bed?? i am not going to leave black marks at every light *the first few weeks maybe...* but after that it will be every now and thing type of thing.

Do your friends rebuild transmissions? Well? Darrens a pro and his transmissions are behind motors that make crazy horsepower.. I would go with Darrens opinion.. Just sayin

nope just reading on the interwebz. of course anything on here has to be true!

yes i think i remember Built54 running a stock 4R70W behide his crazy built54 and it lasted just fine till he put a built trans in there.

and im sure the cost. im sure aftermarket parts to build a 4R70W are cheaper than an E4OD,4R100,ZF5,4R75W. plus the ease of not having to wire for a diff. trans.

i think im going to go with a 4R70W anyways.
