shift ****

So I was hauling up a hill the other day and went to shift from 3rd to 4th, as soon as I hit 4th my shifter **** came clean off.
My question is how is the original **** held on?
and could I use an aftermarket **** on the stock shifter?

Mine did it too on a stinking hot day, and it slapped right back on and hasn't come off since. It looks like it's glued on with blue Loctite or something like that.

I read somewhere that they are just pressed on from the factory, I wish they did a normal bolt on like every other transmission so I could get an aftermarket ****.
