What trany do i have.
 

Well my transmission went bye bye the other day and now it is sitting at a local mechanic waiting for a new trany. Before I go and buy a rebuild for a 1000 bucks I was gonna go to the local junkyards and see if I couldn't find a used one. The mechanic told me its a aodew. Its a 1997 4.6l 4x4 with o/d how can I find out for sure if this is the actual transmission that is in my pickup. How many different transmissions could it be? Thanks for any help

It's a 4R70W, 4x4 version. 2wd trannys are different.

I have a '99 5.4L XLT 2WD would that be using 4R100 or 4R70W ?

Look at the data tag on the driver's door jamb. Under TR will be either a U or an E. E means 4R100 and U means 4R70W.
