Question Which Mercon V

OK, Ive read alot of posts about trans fluids and this is what I got from it all,

Mercon V is now recommended for the E4OD (1998).
Mobile 1 syn atf "may" be bad for soft parts.
Dual purpose atf fluid (Mercon/MerconV) "may" not be good for the trans.

So now I have 3 questions'

What Brand of Mercon V is everyone using?
NAPA asked me if I had the deep pan or the shallow pan for a new filter. Does anyone have a pan depth comparison?
Who sells Motorcraft atf besides a dealer, dont want to pay through the nose for it if possible!

Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

98 F150 4.6 E4OD

ANY Mercon V spec fluid is fine. Drain the torque converter too.

If you have a 4.6 you have a 4R70W, not a E4OD.

Ah, the myth of the dealerships ripping everyone off. My local dealer sells Motorcraft Mercon V for about $4 a quart. It doesn't get any cheaper at Wally World. I've had really good results in my cars with Red Line, Royal Purple, & Lucas Oil. Red Line has a "High Temperature" atf that meets Mercon V specs.

I use Mobil 1 motor oil when Wally World has a sale or there is a rebate. I should try the ATF. I've always wanted to try Amsoil also, but that stuff never goes on sale.

Thanks for the correction glc, no wonder the poor napa guy had a hard time finding the right filter! Ended up using the napa brand mercon v, napa guy said it's made by valvoline.
