Transmission won't engage
Hey all,
I have a 98 F150 Scab. 5.4l Triton, E4OD Trans. I just got through rebuilding the motor/trans/chassis etc. Everything is hooked up, the truck is running, all fluids are in. I was ready, er thought I was ready, to take it for a ride and I went to shift it into reverse to back out of my driveway, and it was a no-go. Truck would not move. Transmission did not seem to want to engage. The truck was in 2wd mode, (I have have MSOF) I tried moving it to 4wd and still no luck. I noticed the 4x4 light on the dash did not seem to come on either. I tried shifting through the rest of the gears, but still had no luck. Being naive, I put the truck back in park. I heard what my dad told me was probably the parking pawl trying to be seated between the gears (I heard a grinding noise as if you were to not shift properly in a stick). I immediately shut the truck down. I theorize that the transmission is probably working b/c it was spinning when I tried to put it into park. I believe it has something to do with the tcase. A little background on the truck: I had the transmission rebuilt at a reputable local shop. I had them install a B and M shift kit. I did not have the tcase rebuilt as I was told by the previous owner, that it was replaced not long ago with a newer one. I'm at a stand still on the truck now because I cannot figure out why it will not move. I drove it home after I bought it a year and a half ago, under it's own power. Any thoughts? Comments? Etc? I'm at a huge loss/dead end with this issue. Thanks, -Alex PS: I have some youtube videos of the truck http://www.youtube.com/ahubbard117 |
I am having the exact same problem. I could use some advise in what I can do

I have to ask, does the t-case shifter feel like it is doing anything?
my thought is that the t-case is staying in neutral. |
The grinding sound when putting it in park shows that the trans is working and the transfer case is in neutral.
