"Clunk" while changing gears

She's a 2001 F-150 Super cab and has recently started clunking while changing gears. I had her in neutral on level ground and checked the universals and they seem in good order. I'm doing a lot of city driving lately and it's really noticeable while going through the lower gears. Anyone have any ideas to what this might be?

Let us know what shifts this happens on. Also is it only on upshifts or is it on downshifts as well?

I notice it most when going from 1st to 2nd and vice versa, but i'm after hearing it between 2nd and 3rd too, and it's usually only at lower RPM shifts. Also, after a complete stop, when i let off the brake she does it. When driving along too if i let off on the throttle and then give it another shot of gas you can hear it. It sounds like there's some kind of play in something. Any thoughts?

my 03 does it from 2nd into 1st. Had it to the dealer 2 different occasions. First occasion he told me that the slip yoke needed to be greased and it would 100 percent fix the clunk but wasnt covered under my ford extended warranty. So i paid 80 bucks for a grease job and got the truck back and it still did it. Went back the second time and had the service manager ride with me and he finally noticed it, took it back in the shop and nothing. Told me to bring it back to the tranny guy the next day. Went in the next day and the transmission guy drove it and said it was so minor he wouldnt worry about it and if it got louder bring it back. 30,000 miles later it still does it but hasnt gotten any worse so heck if i know.

Same thing here with my 03 and the slip yoke...****en ford is the worst for this ****, guys like it's normal...normal? LoL I just laughed at him. When they greased mine it went away for like a day, mine is lifted 6 inches with 35s, I'm thinking of getting some new leafs out back and u bolts and stuff cuz I think it's related to axle rap. Oh and some traction bars may help to I believe but good luck finding them for cheap

I ask him that if I was to trade it in wright now would you ding me on the clunk. He really had no anwser. But your truck hasnt gotton louder.(clunk)
