Won't start
I replaced a 1991 f150 AOD transmission with the same type out of a 1989 model, but when I went to start it it acts like the motor is locked up, just get a hard click when tryng to start it. tryed jumping it, changed out starter wth no luck. seems like the starter tryes to engage but the motor is locked up.

Can you turn the motor over by hand?
Sounds like you didn't get the torque converter seated all the way in the trans before it was bolted to the motor. Phil |
I was afraid of something like that, guess only thing to do is pull it back apart and get iit seated, or is there anything I can do wiithout pullng it all back apart?
|
If that is in fact your problem,,,then yes,,you have to take it back apart.
Put a bar on the front of your motor first an try to turn it over by hand. Phil |
No I can't turn it over by hand. Reckon I've done any damage to anything? Or do I just need to take it back apart and see? Any and all input appreciated.
|
You probably didn't do any damage but you'll need to look it over when you get the tranny unbolted.
By the torque converter not being all the way in like it should. It will be pressed up against the flywheel. That's whey it wont turn over. Check the flywheel for cracks or warpage. And check the teeth. What you did is kinda hard on the starter and flywheel,,but you should be ok. Phil |
phil thanks for the input, I got it in right, but I guess I'm jinxed, I know when I parked the 89 f150 about 5 years ago the transmission was workin right, but I'm rite back to square one, I have no OD. I'm at a loss, surely it couldn't loose OD just sittin there. Any suggestions? I'm up for listenin.

I don't think it would go bad just sitting there.
Not sure what to tell you now. Best thing to do is ask Darrin. https://www.f150online.com/forums/me...rin-burch.html He builds trannys and might be able to help you figure out the problem. Phil |
