Selectable Locker

I'm 2wd with an open differential. I want to add more traction for winter driving. I've heard the LS don't always work that great and was reading up a bit on manual lockers. What do you recommend? Electronic, Pneumatic, etc?

What will give me the best traction with a 2wd truck? Also, what can I expect to pay? (I'd rather pay as little as possible.) I do not drive off road. But we do get a lot of snow and I'm sick of my one wheel drive. Thanks.

2008_XL,

Welcome, MecedesTech passed this link to me and will pass it to you.

http://www.off-road.com/offroad/arti....jsp?id=285534

It explains everything regarding lsd/lockers/selectable lockers both manual and electric.

Just incase you have not read enough....

Lockers or LSD's are not cheap.
A manual locker NIB run from 399 and Above
LSD run NIB about 475 and abve
Electric Run NIB about 700 and above
Air Lockers run NIB $799 and above

I live in CA and my Factory LSD went out about 40K miles ago. I didn't even now until last week when i was driving around through some mild terrain....

Good luck....there plenty of knowlegdable guys that will guide in the right way.

I run a factory type(but not factory) limited slip diff and I drag race. It works great,,never had a problem. it only cost around 200 bucks!
And yes,,it works great in the snow.

I know i this is offtopic, but what rear end do you have on your F150?
I looked around for selectable lockers, but fords' 9.75 rear end has minimal selection. It is either a detriot locker or LSD. NO elockers or ARB available...

That is one of reason why i am sticking with a TrueTrac. Locker would be nice, but TrueTrac is better than my factory Traction Lok crap....

I know I have the 3.55 gears in the back and that's about all I know. I've heard a lot about the Trutrac. Does anyone know the price? I tried seaching online and didn't see any prices. Thanks.

Try here

http://www.ringpinion.com/Default.aspx

ask for

Brian Hudson,

Here is what he quoted me:

Qty Part # Description Price Ext
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 TT 913A477 9.75" FORD 34spl TRU$474.22 $474.22
2 TK NP343847 9.75" FORD CARRIER BRG$23.88 $47.76
2 TK NP372019 9.75" FORD CARRIER BRG RACE$11.23 $22.46
1 SK SSF9.75 9.75" FORD SUPER SHI$31.26 $31.26
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Subtotal: $575.70

I shopped around the last couple of days, no one came close to the NIB item.

Depending on how many miles your truck has you might need a master install kit.

Good luck

Cool. Thanks for the info. What did you spend for the Eaton LSD? I've also heard many people rave about the Detroit Truetrac and the fact that it's maintenance free. I hear a lot of LSD's go out around 40k.
