Loose Yellow Piece in tranny pan

I have an 05 F-150 with 35,000 miles on it and i am changing the transmission fluid. When i dropped the pan i found a yellow plastic piece inside which looks like a dowl going into a cieriel bowl which has a grommett around it. This is something i have never encountered and don't know what to do. Let me know if you have any idea where this thing goes or if it belongs in there to begin with.

it's a factory piece used for blocking off the dipstick tube, it just means that no one has been inside your trans (it's a good thing)

This being a sticky and all, shouldn't it have some advice as to what to do with the yellow thangy?

I think the link in post #6 contains some advice.

If you are a fisherman, use it for a bobber.

True.

If anyone is new and wondering, here's a direct and simple answer:
"You don't need the temporary plug and can toss it out with no concerns"

............dropped my pan in my 03' yesterday and found the same thing in the bottom and was baffled WTF it was. Now I guess I can sleep at night not wondering anymore what it is.
