2003 F-150 Transfer Case Leak

While changing the oil this afternoon, I noticed that a hose that connects to my transfer case was cracked at the connection/junction and leaking. I cut off the cracked part of the hose and reattached. However, directly below the (formerly) leaking hose, there is a hole which looks like it should have a hose connected. So a two questions:

1) Should a hose be connected to the empy hole?
2) How do I refill the t-case?

Thanks!

The hose you fixed is the breather tube [13] and the spot below [12] is where the transfer case indicator switch goes on a manual tranny truck.

Here's the fill plug [on the other side from the tube].

Thanks! Two follow up questions:
1) The breather tube was dripping some pretty dark (black) oil. Should I take this opportunity to change the t-case oil?
2) Is it safe to drive in 2WD for a few miles so I can get to the auto parts store?

I think the transfer case should be mercon V transmission fluid not oil. The dark stuff in the breather tube is most likely trans fluid mixed with dirt. It is never a bad idea to change out the fluid especially if your truck has higher miles.

The transfer case will not care what type or brand of ATF. Super easy to do with a suction gun. Make sure you can remove the fill plug before taking out the drain plug.

Resurrecting an old thread. My transfer case is missing that hose and there is a misting of fluid coming out onto the bottom of the truck.

I want to put a new hose and a breather vent. Where does that hose ultimately terminate? On the firewall?
