when i start my truck the overdrive is on . I back out my driveway put it in drive go alittle and the overdrive off light comes on and i did not push the button. whats this mean. is something wrong with my trans. 2002 supercrew 5.4

 

More likely than not, the wiring harness is chafed (where it exits the shift lever) and is intermittently shorting to the steering column or the switch has failed and is intermittently closing.

I'd pull the column shrouds and inspect that harness first.

As long as the O/D Cancel light isn't flashing in a regular manner, it's probably just the harness problem described above. If it is flashing, then the computer is trying to tell you something.

its not flashing it just comes on i can press the button to turn it off again

 

A possibility, and I have done it too, is that when you shift, either into reverse or into drive, you are accidentally pushing in the button enough to disengage it.
