You need to re-port the plate ? Be careful there. I did that to mine and it was way to hard -"shifts" slam like a b^tch. I had to fabricate my own plate because I drilled the holes to big. Yea , you can re-use most of the fluid if you just flushed and have new in there. Here's what I did 2 years ago -

Fluid -

It's already been filtered thru the trans filter, but you will get impurities. If you drain via bolt in the pan - you'll get 8 -9 quarts from the E4OD. Use a big funnel and quart bottles if possible. The last quart out is NO good. You'll see the impurities. Watch the 2nd to last quart as well. With a light in back of the bottle - impurities that the Amsoil has cleaned from the trans will settle in the bottom of the bottle. You can re-use the first six for sure.

I marked mine with tape and checked them all for impurities. I had them in the last bottle drained, that's it. -

that transmission did not come out very well with the damn transfer case still on it lol. I couldn't get the torsion bars to break loose either. I used a two prong puller to get the stoppers/bolt out that you crank the torsion bars with and then pulled the puller out so there is no tension in them, but man, I can't get them to come out for the life of me. I think they are just too rusted in on both ends. So I just worked around that cross member. when pulling the old tranny out. I think I'm going to have to take the transfer case off my new(new to me) transmission though before I try to put it in. You think that will hurt anything?

not a big deal, me and my bro were replacing his tranny daily in his ranger, he would pull the t-case to make it manageable while i pulled bellhousing bolts.

From under the truck. about 2' of extensions for the drivers side, and for the top passengerside, I got it from the fender well, with the header removed is the only way to get to that one unless you have about 3' of extensions

Ok well this 96 whent by WAYYYY too fast lol. I got my AF1 CAI in (sounds freekin' sweet and did help out w/ gas milage surprisingly After I got over the WOT sound lol) Got my pre-runner N-Fab bar on w/ 2 KC lights (didn't wire them yet no time) did an oil change, and diff oil change and just ran out of time. I had so much too do. I did open the Transgo and unfortunately it scared me out of trying! I am not familiar w/ transmissions, and seeing the instructions I honestly just thought that I would do more harm than good. I may give it a shot next...next weekend when I go home next, but I was uncomfortable to say that least. I will check out the pics, hope its easier than the instructions show! (not 100% comfortable with drilling into my Daily Driver's tranny)

i used about 3ft extension and a swivel to break it loose on the passenger side, my drivers side was easy, then i was able to pull the passenger side one by reaching my hand up and over the housing to the passenger side.

Yeah, that thing about killed me pulling it out with the transfer case still on since I left the torsion bar and that crossmember on lol. I couldn't imagine doing this without the 3" lift I put on, it gives a lot more room.

Hey I have a very important question for you guys. I took the valve bodies apart because I want to put my shift kit in the new tranny. The question is, can you think of any reason why it would be a bad idea just to switch out the valve bodies instead of going through the trouble of taking the springs out of one and putting them in the other?
Now if I do just switch the valve bodies, do you think I should go ahead and switch them all like the solenoid pack for example, even though I didn't make any changes to them? Or should I keep the original ones whenever possible?

Thanks!

- Yea , I'm not sure Crapman makes the lever action anymore. The Snap On is the same type , but smaller trigger. The Crapman sucks if you have to choke up on it and accidentally flick that lever and start going the opposite direction (why doesn't that sound right? )

If they know whats good for them they dont make that ratchet anymore. Its already been repaired or replaced (cant remember now) once, and this one is a POS too. Using it makes me want to push old men over.
