4x4 Controls won't work

Hey everyone!

I have a 2005 F-150 Lariat Supercrew 4x4. We are currently on vacation and have been pulling our 25 foot travel trailer, and have had no difficulties whatsoever.

That being said, I noticed the other day that switching the truck into 4 wheel drive did nothing. The 4x4 light on the dash did NOT come on and that familiar "click" sound when switching to 4WD could not be heard. (I know that the 4x4 read out on the dash DOES work because when I start the engine it lights up along with the other dash lights.)

I have been having NO issues with the transmission and the pickup seems to be running well. Has anyone else experienced your 4x4 not working?

Thanks for any insights.

Paul

I chased myself, fearing the worst, and found out the shift motor died. huge sigh of relief.

What was involved in your repair?

on my 97 I had to unpin 1 wire from the harness, undo 3 bolts and replace the unit and repin the harness.

There will be a difference between mine and yours after 8 years and one model change. Typically a shift motor failure is an easy repair after you make sure it is the problem.

First check the fuses. In the cab; fuse #11 10 amp and #29& 30 15 amp #111 30 amp. There are also two relays in the Engine compartment on the left fender (driver side).
