hey guys i work for a custom fab shop in florida and we are redoing a 98 f150 that came with a 4.2. the bed alone is about 600 lbs so the motor gave out. we put a 4.6 out of a 98 in it. i need to know if the transmission and torq converter will work on the new power plant. thanks for the info.(www.itsraw.com or itsraw on myspace to see the truck its the orange one with the skulls)

 

Not quite sure how you put the 4.6 in place of the 4.2 as the two have a different bell housing bolt pattern. You need a tranny from a 4.6 or 5.4.

i havnt bolted anything up yet but i was told that the tranny would work. the dealer is worthless when it comes to this stuff.

 

That's a negative. The 4.2L shares the bolt pattern with the 300, 302, and 351w. The 4.6L, 5.4L, 6.8L, and 6.0L share the new modular pattern. So you need to swap trannys. The plus side if yer a 4x4, the transfer case can stay as they have the same pattern at the rear of the tranny.

Finding a 4R70w with the modular pattern shouldnt be hard at all in either 4x4 or 4x2 versions.
