installing trans cooler

im getting ready to install a imperial 11x15 trans cooler on my 2003 super crew 5.4 the instructions in kit calls for it to be mounted directly to raditor but the factory one is located on a bracket in front of radiator will this cause any problems -also is there a kit for putting a drain plug in the trans pan

Yes, you can get kits for putting drain plugs in the pan. Nice little mod. I think most require welding though, or at least that's what I'd do.

Your stock cooler is not in front of the radiator. It's down behind the bumper opening on the right hand side and it's about 7X9 or something like that. If you have a tranny cooler mounted in front of the radiator now, it's not stock. You want to remove the stock one anyways. Not familiar with with your cooler, but if it's a tube and fin type cooler, you don't want to run two coolers in series. Tube and fin type coolers cause a lot of pressure drop and with two coolers, the pressure drop could be enough to cause problems with these heavily electronic controlled trannys.

The ideal way is to have one cooler large and efficient enough to do the job. Preferrably a stacked plate/plate and fin type cooler. They're a little more pricey, but much more efficient and worth it IMO.

You're actually loosing cooling capacity with that cooler. Your stock cooler has a surface area of 231 sq in's. The new one you have has 121 sq in's.

This is the cooler you want for your truck. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=302758

Question though...what's your drive for installing a new cooler in the first place??
