4R70W Fluid Capacity
I'm getting ready to drop my transmission pan and change the filter and fluid. Is somewhere between 5 and 6 quarts what I will need to do the job?
Thanks, Bixbystx |
I took out about 10-11 quarts, and put in about 9-10 with a tube of friction modifier

A 4R70W holds about 12-13 quarts. If you are only dropping the pan you'll need 5-7 quarts to refill. You'll still have 5-8 quarts in the trans that didn't get changed.

When i did mine this summer, i dropped the pan and drained the torque converter (mine has drainage plug) and it took 12 qts and a bit of a 13th qt. to fill it. So, it was a pretty thorough fluid change.

What do you guys use for gaskets? I need to know weather or not to go with cork or rubber. And if with cork, should I use some Avation seal and use Gasket Sealer with the rubber? Thanks!
|
go with a rubber gasket. Always. Cork = 60's and 70's :beers:
Or better yet, buy a Mag-Hytech tranny pan. Adds 4-7 qts of fluid or so. They are very nice. https://www.f150online.com/galleries...106-205633.jpg |
Whats the cost on an aftermarket deep pan with maybe a drain plug?
|
Mine was just a hair over $200.00. Got it thru josh over at SportsTrailer.com. Also a member on this site. I don't have his number with me but you can send him an e-mail and he will get back to you pretty quick.
"Josh" <josh@sportztrailers.com> I highly suggest this quick and easy mod! They even have a tapped hole ready for a temp sensor if you want. Other wise it has a plug that screws in. P.S. My fluid capacity went from what 16 qts? (already had deep factory pan + newer model) To now holding about 23 ! |
do you have a side picture so i can see what the ground clearance is like? I want to get a deep pan that holds more, without getting much lower to the ground
