1992 Neutral safety switch

hello all,
heres my issue. I have a 1992 F150 super 4x4 with 5.8 and AOD. It has a bad shift cable and i am awaiting the part, i can however drive it, it will engage reverse and down, but i have to manually go under and disengage to park. It also has been running rough so i pulled it in and changed the plugs on it. Get back in to test and it wouldn't start. All the lights come on and fuel pump kicks in but nothing happens when i turn to start. So i go and short out the starter solenoid and it starts up. So i am thinking maybe this is neutral safety switch? is there a way to bypass and where is it? Or maybe this is something that will be corrected when i replace shift cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It's called the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) and it's on the trans where the shift cable attaches. It's the part with all the wires sticking out of it.

Howdy and welcome!

Not an AOD if origional with a 351. The E4OD (20 pan bolts) tranny you prolly have has a Manual Lever Postion Sensor (AKA TRS) where the cable attaches to the tranny. 'Bout 100bucks at your dealer.
