It's odd that no one sells an aftermarket cooler that large, all of the B&M, derale, etc, are at most 10 in. x 11 in. x 1 1/ 2. Which is close, with 121 square inches, compared to the stock at 138 square inches. But i think that at 1 1/2" its thicker than the stock one correct?

Since 33" is darn near 3 feet, that was my only 'guess' at what Red was looking at....

I'd say that stock trans cooler in the pic is only around 18"??

Anyway, glad we are all on the same page now!

That cooler in front of the truck is defiently a trans cooler. I have the same thing and just added another cooler in line with it. It made a noticable temp change over the stock cooler. Average ambent temp was 90+ deg F with a heat index of 100+ deg F the truck ran 180+ before and now 156+ after. Those are trans temps per the Edge display.

I went with the B&M that was 13000 btu cooling. There was one problem though the fittings that came with the cooler were not sufficent to plumb in the hoses. I had to use some tubing fittings and tubing to get mine in.

I'm looking at going with the troyer tranny cooler. I was wondering if anyone has any experience installing it. And if so how was it?

I looked at orderig the troyer cooler, but its on back order for a while. So i was looking around and heard that a V10 tranny cooler will work. Has anyone used this:

I don't know the dimensions on that particular piece. That woudl be my only question.

The stock Ford coolers look a lot like the Long Tru Cool stuff. There is a nice one from Long that is bigger than the 3 inch tall one that comes stock. It's a 44k GVW unit and it's a nice piece.

After looking around, the long tru cool is the same as the V10 cooler, but with different mounting hardware. According to some posts i've seen, long tru cool makes the stock V10 cooler. But after looking and thinking, is there a chance that it will be too much cooling? I know that that the tranny needs a certain amount of heat to operate efficiently, but i also know they have bypass valves. I've narrowed it down to two options:

1) The V10 (Tru-Cool 4739 MAX )-GVW Rating - 40,000 lbs
2) The Long Tru-Cool LPD Cooler SR4590 -GVW Rating - 28,000 lbs

The latter is about half the price. But both are cheaper than a new tranny!

So which would you guys choose, i'll be towing a 6,000 lb trailer in southern california, ambients range from 60-100 degrees. Thank you,
Nick

Too Bad about the Troyer cooler. Sorry about that one. But like I said before it really depends on the traffic (or how much stop and go you do). I couldn't imagine the v-10 cooler cooling down your tranny "too much", especially down in SoCal(even when not towing). But the other one, being at half price... may be the better (more economical) buy. My understanding is the latter one you listed will give you plenty of cooling.

Yea i was really dissapointed about it being backordered. And i think the latter would give sufficient cooling, but just wanted to make sure. The 28,000 is the same size as the stock cooler found on trucks w/ towing package, so wi would think it would suffice. And with the savings i could buy a temp gauge.

I use the bigger one for the applications that I work on all the time. Even in nothern climates and even in cars.

Not a single problem yet.

I love those coolers. I know someone was looking into selling them, but by the time you messed with that you can get them cheaper in places like ebay anyway.
