Auto to Manual
Auto to Manual
ok, I have a 2001 SCrew with a 5.4. As all of you know they only came with the automatic transmissions, but I want to be different. I have access to the clutch assembly, steering column, manual transmission and transfer case from a F250 that had the 5.4 in it. The steering column and clutch assembly are out of a 2000 F150. Could I make this work without a whole lot of trouble? Has it been attempted before? Is there anything to look out for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the two choices of manual trannys that came out of the superduty, neither came stock in the F-150.
Either the ZF S5-47 five speed or ZF6 six speed are much larger than the Mazda M5OD-R2 the F-150 cab was designed to fit over. Also the New Venture transfer case from the superduty is bigger than the Borg Warner unit from the 150.
So making it fit might be easy or hard, I don't know. Perhaps a body lift might be needed.
You don't need to change the column, just take off the shifter and put the cover from the stick column on yer truck.
A custom tune will need to be made to keep the computer from setting codes due to a lack of an automatic tranny to control.
