trans fluid level?

I recently had my trans fluid changed at friends shop. I have known this guy a long time and have trusted him with my vehicles for years. He told me to check the fluid after driving it a few days to be sure the level is ok. When I checked it it was over the hatch marks by roughly an inch. He told me that was fine, but I thought this would be a really bad thing. I have 101,000 miles on it and intend on driving it at least another 50,000 miles or more. I would like to do it without buying a transmission. Should I adjust the level or leave it alone? Thanks.

As I understand it, you are better off with the transmission fluid low as opposed to high. A buddy of mine just did a drain/fill on another friend's minivan. They can be tricky. We drove it for 20 minutes to get it good and hot to check the level.

Ultimately, we overfilled it by ~ 7 oz. So he loosened the drain plug just enough to let that much back out.

Are you checking it hot, or cold? Truck on level ground? These will make a difference.

Personally, I wouldn't sweat it. It's really not that big a deal.

But, should your transmission start going south, are you gonna put the blame on your friend(the trans guy), too much fluid(it is above the crosshatches), or the weather?

At this point, there is only one variable you have control over.

Thanks for the comments. I have one of those brake bleeding tools that I am thinking about using to suck some of the fluid out. I have an '03 Mustang GT 5 speed that is very sensitive to the trans fluid level. That is why I was concerned.
