trann or tourqe converter??

I just got back from a few days in the city, and while driving on the highway (55mph-70mph) I noticed that while keeping an average speed, the tranny would feel like it would "slip" The RPM's would jump about 200-300 RPM's under normal driving conditins. Myquestin is, is the tranny slipping or would it be the torque coverter? Any help would be greatley apreciated. BTW, the truck is a 2001 crew 5.4 4x4 with the 4R70W tranny

ok, got another question. Would the 4R100 tranny bolt up to the transfer case in my 4x4? Would it be a stronger, better transmission? I do quite abit of towig, and alot of work at the farm, as well as romping in the mud from time to time.
