05 f150 4x4 auto tranny whine???

Hey all....I have an 05 fx4 with the automatic transmission and today it started making a whining noise. Sounds alot like alternator whine but it isnt. i only hear it under acceleration. the problem is definately the transmission. it will not do it in neutral....only while in gear and it will do it through the different gears. I do not have to be rolling down the road.....i pressed the gas pedal while holding the truck still with the brake and it did it then too. shifts fine and doesnt seem to slip. any ideas what the problem might be. truck has 47k miles on it. checked the fluid and it looks great and doesnt have a bad smell to it. any ideas???

05 supercrew, 70k miles, has had that same whine for some time now. I hear it mostly while driving slow with the windows down and the radio off. No shifting probs.

Under the Wrench

My '05 goes under the wrench today. We believe it to be the TC or the pump. I'll let you know what I find out. Should be in the next day or two.

Got her fixed

Ok folks my whine is gone. It turned out to be a bearing in the torque converter. Clearly visible when it was remove from the TC and opened. The race was worn on both sides. It was the thin bearing between the turbine and the cover. You can clearly see it in the photo here:http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/08.../photo_04.html

Dang...... there goes my pseudo supercharger!!!

Sorry for the delay

trm122,
No the noise never went away when the truck was in gear. Any gear. The only time it went away was in park or neutral.
