Tranny/Transfer case fluid levels

Took my 2002 f-150 4x4 (45,000 miles on it with excellent service in past) in for service and tech advised me that the fluid level in the transfer case was too high and fluid level in transmission was low. drained some out and added some and tech advised that they see this quite often as there is a seal between both units that goes bad, just check levels when servicing and should be fine, if fluid gets too high in transfer case will blow another seal and then leak out. No leakage under vehicle at this time. Anyone out there ever hear about this ?
Thanks
Lou

Yes, I've heard of that problem. It was fairly common.
