Aftermarket Trans Cooler
 

I need to put a transmission cooler on my 03 supercrew 2wd with a 4.6 triton. Any recommendations on which one to get?

My search fu is not as strong as it should be so I've not had much luck searching the forums for this.

Go look at Derale. That's the only aftermarket one I would get...although another project on here gave me the idea of finding a late model SD cooler. They're huge compared to F-150 coolers, they're the stacked plate/fin design so that's a plus, and I would venture you can pick them up at a salvage place pretty dang cheap!!

I have been looking into this for when I do tow. I was leaning toward the electric Dreale like you but now am leaning toward the larger superduty for two reasons. Quality and installation. The below pic shows alot of fancy braiding and a mag filter but I think for a casual tow regular lines will be good enough for me.

get ford parts dot com has em for 64 cents shy a hundred (not including shipping) but I am not sure if it is the cooler only or with mounting hardware.

What year SD for the trans cooler?

Hey dennisfranz...what kind of truck is that in the photo?? It's not a post '04 F-150. And about how much room is between the back side of the cooler and the radiator??

It's for just the cooler. You'll have to buy the screws and line separate.

It's a Lightning. I have the exact same set-up except my filter is in a different location.

so are the threads pipe threads or do you have to use a special adapter to fit the braided line?

If you're going with a #6 braided line you'll need to get a -6AN to 5/8"-18 Inverted Flare Fitting to use on the ports of the cooler. Summit has them under part # RUS-640380.
