Just the stator/clutch or the whole torque converter?

My transmission is slipping, most likely due to the job I thought I needed carrying too much crap around. I have a new code about how my torque converter clutch has excessive slippage, which I can feel dramatically.

Would it be a better idea to replace the clutch in the stator or just replace the torque converter as a whole?

I'm sort of leaning towards the latter because I've never actually been inside a torque converter, don't even know if it's "supposed" to come apart. If I had the American cash dollars, I'd replace the tranny as a whole to a 5 speed.

Unless you have over a hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment, you can't work on convertors. Problem is, if the convertor is taking a dump, it has already fill your trans with metal. It will look like glitter. If so, your trans needs to be gone thru.

It probably has nothing to do with stator clutch. More likely the lockup clutch hhas peeled off.
