Tranny won't engage 3rd or reverse
 

Alrighty folks, here is the case....

I let a friend drive my 1990 manual transmission 4wd F-150. When he gets back the transmission is stuck in 2 gears, and wont shift to neutral or any other gear for that matter. After some fiddling with the top of the transmission me and my father get the transmission into neutral, and now it will shift into all gears except for 3rd and reverse...was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, we think we may just be off a little on the synchro ring placement but we didn't want to take the top off again without being sure...any help would be appreciated.

I doubt it is a synchro concern. Most likely he tried to jam 3rd gear and messed up a shift rail. You probably have a M5OD which isn't real tough.
